    The New Sith Hegemony

Post by Toothpick on Mon Sep 07, 2009 1:18 pm

Two robed figures sprinted towards each other across the hard, uneven crags of weathered igneous rock that covered the surface of Hertigau, colliding with an electric snarl of lightsaber-on-lightsaber. They fought with the determined, impersonal fury of automatons, spinning and slashing for long minutes. One a human, pallid and unhealthy, intense, the other a Wolfman, all teeth and fur and oily grace. A sudden tearing motion from the long, curved claws of the Wolfman ripped the human's side in two. He staggered, but retaliated with a blast of invisible energy. The Wolfman flew through the air and landed hard on his head with a low whimper, and by the time he stood up again, the human was gone, leaving nothing but a few drops of blood. He growled in frustration and bent low, sniffing intently. The hunt was on again.

It was a deep wound, but it had missed his larger veins and arteries. Kesh felt rage well up within him, enveloping him, and directed that hate to the locus of his pain. The power of the Dark Side raged around him, trembling the nearby rocks as he forced the damaged tissues painfully together, feeding off the further pain to complete the process as quickly as possible.

Within less than 2 minutes, he stood, pallid but with his wound closed, eyes flashing around the vacant, hellish valley he had retreated to. Only the phantom movement of wavering, unreal water off in the distance broke the stillness. He took off at a run, his strides unearthly in their speed and length, leaping across the low, sharp crags with the grace of a Twi’lek dancer. His awareness of his surroundings was nearly overwhelming as he ran-every blade of faded yellow thiwheat vibrated against his mind, though he closed his eyes against the dry, burning air, instead letting the Force guide each step.

After ten minutes he came to a tumor-like bulge in the earth, surrounded by skinny grey trees and dense fields of still bright yellow thiwheat. The bright, healthy color of the thiwheat meant water, likely fresh and clear of toxins given the lack of discoloration to the plants. Though he felt his thirst only dimly through his Sith conditioning, he needed water within a day to prevent his muscles from failing in this heat. He examined the oasis with caution, and a faint smile played across his thin face at what he sensed.

From a particularly dense part of the surrounding thicket he felt waves of aggression and hunger emanating from one of the apex predators of this world, a lithe, chitin-covered monster with massive claws and not much in the way of brains called a Vrrinda. It waited in ambush for the creature foolish enough to drink unwarily from the oasis. But Kesh was no such creature. A few deep breaths caused the searing heat to fade into the background as he accessed the force, feeling its awesome power sizzling through his every nerve, raw potential bent to his will.. He entered the hungry, simple mind of the insect-like predator, calming its instincts and bringing it out of its cover. It tore into the sun-baked earth, exposing the sweet, clean spring beneath. Kesh placed his lightsaber against its hard forehead and ignited it. The beast died with a sizzle and a whimper, its purpose to Kesh spent. Kesh deactivated the blade with a smile and drank, leaning over, back exposed. Hoping his exposure would be alluring enough…

Kesh rolled to the side as a rock smashed into dust where he had been standing. He leapt straight up, igniting his lightsaber. A dark figure rocketed from the thicket, pale blue blade setting the nearby thiwheat aflame as the snarling Wolfman rocketed forward in a blur of fang and fur. Kesh lashed out with all the rage in his being, hurling a great, crackling barrage of Sith lightning onto his foe.

The Shistavanen blocked most of the blast with his blade, but stumbled back howling nevertheless, its fur badly singed. Kesh landed, body assuming the balanced, two handed form of Ataru, and watched his opponent try to beat out the fire now raging around him in the thiwheat. He laughed as he sensed fear in the Shistavanen’s aura. Was this living nightmare, descendent of the infamous hunter-packs of Uvena Prime, afraid of fire?

This fight might finally be over!

A weakness as crippling as one to fire could easily be exploited with a little applied science and some Dun Moch. “Some great Sith Apprentice YOU are, terrified of mere flames! Darth Verrat must be going soft to coddle such a weakling!” Kesh sneered. The Shistavanen faltered as shame roiled through its mind, filling Kesh with triumph. Kesh hurled his lightsaber into the thiwheat behind the Shistavanen as he swiftly backed away, turning the once hospitable oasis into a pool of shallow flame completely surrounding the Shistavanen. The fool tried to make a leap out of the flames, but Kesh was well prepared and sent him flying back down with a sharp blast of the Force, simultaneously catching his returning lightsaber. The Shistavanen tried to put the fire out as it fell with a feeble gust of air, but his efforts were confused and frightened, his connection to the Force weakened. He landed with a scream amidst the flames.

Relentlessly, Kesh reached out and drove the wind upon the fire in a roaring gust, creating a raging inferno around the foolish Wolfman as he writhed in agony, trying to hold off the unimaginable heat with his failing connection to the Dark Side. “Now BURN, shame of Uvena, and burden the Sith no more with your weakness!” Kesh roared, waving his lightsaber in quick circles as he drove the fire higher and higher, face taut with fury. The Wolfman began to howl in terror, loosing all control of the Force as he was consumed, his howls reaching a fever pitch of unimaginable pain. Kesh chuckled as his foe roasted to a slow death. The Shistavanen had been an excellent survivalist and a formidible ambusher during their battle across the planet, but for all his physical strength he was crippled in the most important way to the Sith-in his fearlessness. The weak deserve their fate indeed! Kesh spat into the flames and walked away.
